Bosch Vivalytic - Universal, intuitive, fast

With Vivalytic, Bosch Healthcare Solutions develops a new all-in-one solution for molecular laboratory diagnostics

  • Vivalytic rolls the broadest range of test options ever seen into one device.
  • The fully automated platform for molecular diagnostics can be operated intuitively.
  • The speed of the test results supports the doctor and allows for targeted therapy.

Waiblingen – Vivalytic is a universal platform for molecular diagnostics that can be used to conduct a number of tests in a fully automated fashion. The device combines the broadest range of test options ever seen. A sample can be tested for one or more parameters at the same time. Depending on the scope and the complexity of the test, results can be available even after 30 minutes. “Vivalytic can simplify routine procedures in clinics and laboratories and speed them up considerably. Thanks to faster test results, doctors can establish a targeted therapy swiftly which can sometimes save lives,” explains Marc Meier, general manager of Bosch Healthcare Solutions. Vivalytic will be presented to industry professionals for the first time at the ECCMID 2018 congress in hall 10, booth 30.

A single unit for all your needs

Vivalytic supports all common test procedures: end-point PCR, quantitative real-time PCR, melting curve analysis and microarray technology. This means that singleplex, low-plex and high multiplex tests are all possible on the same device. Depending on the test, various sample materials such as fluids, tissue samples or sputum can be processed. Intelligent, programmable microfluidics allow viruses, bacteria and fungi to be analyzed in two parallel processes independently of one another.

Automation and great ease of use for fast results

Vivalytic is fully automatic and is easy to use. Tests that previously had to be carried out with various devices or prepared manually are now possible in a single step with Vivalytic: The sample can be put in a cartridge with minimal preparation and becomes processed in the sealed device. Clinic and laboratory staff can learn how to use it in no time. Ease of use and speed are supported by the fact that the cartridges can be used over a long period of time without any special storage and the reagents do not need to be cooled. Vivalytic can also be set up to save space, as it does not require any peripheral devices such as laptops, keyboards, barcode scanners or filling stations. Thanks to the support of common standards such as HL7 the multifunctional platform can be integrated into the existing IT systems of hospitals or practices. The results are therefore immediately made available to the people involved in the diagnostic process. These results are automatically processed and displayed for each user group individually – from a short summary to the raw data of every single measurement.

Comprehensive and growing test portfolio

Vivalytic is designed to be an open platform compatible with molecular diagnostic tests of various manufacturers. Bosch Healthcare Solutions has already established partnerships with Randox Laboratories and R-Biopharm for this purpose. “This is transformational for patients and doctors; never before has there been this level of accessibility to such a wealth of molecular tests,” said Dr Peter FitzGerald, founder and MD of Randox Laboratories. “With Vivalytic, there’s no limit to the testing portfolio that can be made available on its universal platform, and importantly it delivers results quickly and accurately. It’s an ideal partnership for Randox, combining our expertise in molecular laboratory diagnostics with Bosch’s cutting-edge engineering. With antimicrobial resistance one of the most pressing public health issues faced across the world today, we’re delighted that the first Randox arrays available on Vivalytic are our industry-leading Respiratory Multiplex, which simultaneously tests for 22 bacterial and viral pathogens, and the STI Multiplex, capable of detecting 10 STIs from a single patient sample. This Randox-Bosch partnership enables quick, accurate diagnosis, improved patient care and the effective stewardship of critical medicines.” In addition to the cooperation with Randox Laboratories, Bosch Healthcare Solutions is also pleased about the partnership with R-Biopharm. “We are thrilled to be working with Bosch, a global industry leader in technology,” said Dr. Frank Apostel, Vice President Business Development & Companion Diagnostics at R-Biopharm AG. Dr. Ralf Dreher, CEO at R-Biopharm AG, comments, “The cooperation with Bosch Healthcare Solutions allows us to use our joint business potentials in order to access new markets and serve an even broader range of customers.” Further partnerships will be concluded to expand the test portfolio in the future.

Innovative health solutions developed by Bosch

Bosch Healthcare Solutions presented its first products in the fields of therapy management, high-tech components and connected life in 2016 and now the budding Robert Bosch GmbH subsidiary is exploring a new field – laboratory diagnostics. Vivalytic is the result of ten years of work by the research and advanced development department. CEO Marc Meier explains, “By entering the laboratory diagnostics market, Bosch Healthcare Solutions is positioning itself more broadly in the medical technology market. Bosch's core skills in sensor technology, automation, miniaturization and connectivity pave the way for Vivalytic, the new all-in-one solution. We are combining these skills with our partners' test expertise to create an open platform.” Vivalytic will be available from the third quarter of 2018 together with initial tests.
